By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. – Hebrews 11:8
Hebrews 11 recounts many men and women of faith, and Abraham is one of them. Abraham didn’t really know why God called Him from his home land. At the time, God told him to leave his homeland and his relatives and He would bless him and make him a great nation. Abraham followed in faith, even though he didn’t know where he was going or why. God had plans to use Abraham’s descendants to become His chosen nation of Israel, out of which Jesus Christ would later come. Abraham would never live to see the Messiah, but God used him to play a part in His plan.
Many people in the Bible never lived to see God’s plan complete, but they still trusted Him, had faith, and followed Him. They weren’t perfect. They made mistakes, but that didn’t stop God from using them in His plan.
What if we are also part of a plan bigger than ourselves? I think we are. The plan to know and be like Christ and share Him with others. It’s all about God and His glory. That’s what this world was created for. We were created to serve and worship Him.
You are one character in God’s story, but you can have a big impact if you trust in His plans and timing. We may get to see His plans unfold during our life, or it may be that God’s plan unfolds later through the lives we have touched, like a ripple affect. It’s assuring to be reminded that God has a plan in everything He does. Even when we can’t see the big picture, He can.
