I spend so much time wishing for something in the future. I say I can’t wait until the day I have my first book published, or I can’t wait to travel to all the places on my bucket list. When is that going to happen? How long will I have to wait? The thing is, a lot of us spend most of our lives wishing for the future that we never get to enjoy the present.
The present is a gift. We are never guaranteed tomorrow. If we stay focused on events that may happen years from now, we will miss the joys of life we have now. If we keep wishing for things we don’t have, we will never be happy. If we focus on our plans for the future, we may miss God’s plan for us today.
Each day is precious. Enjoy your life and the people in it. Be in the moment, not on your phone. Make memories with your family and friends and serve our Lord with your life right where you are now. You don’t have to wait until you’re a certain age or living in a specific place to make a difference. God wants to use you now in the big things and small things.
Now, I’m not saying dreaming big is wrong. I have lots of dreams, and some of them even seem crazy sometimes. But I’ve realized that when I spend all of my time wishing that dream would come true now, I miss out on the journey happening today. When I become so focused on that dream that I’m blind to life today, I’m not nearly as happy as I could be. I become discontent with my life, when I have countless reasons to be thankful. Please, keep dreaming big and don’t stop chasing those dreams. Just don’t forget to be thankful for where you are in your life today. You won’t get another day like today, so enjoy this moment. The present is a gift from God.
