By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. – Hebrews 11:8
Hebrews 11 recounts many men and women of faith, and Abraham is one of them. Abraham didn’t really know why God called Him from his home land. At the time, God told him to leave his homeland and his relatives and He would bless him and make him a great nation. Abraham followed in faith, even though he didn’t know where he was going or why. God had plans to use Abraham’s descendants to become His chosen nation of Israel, out of which Jesus Christ would later come. Abraham would never live to see the Messiah, but God used him to play a part in His plan.
Many people in the Bible never lived to see God’s plan complete, but they still trusted Him, had faith, and followed Him. They weren’t perfect. They made mistakes, but that didn’t stop God from using them in His plan.
What if we are also part of a plan bigger than ourselves?

So many people go through life wondering, “What is my purpose?” This question is especially common among teenagers and young adults as we try to figure out the rest of our life. We try to figure out what career we want to pursue, where to go to college (or whether or not we should go to […]
“Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against the house and could not shake it, […]
It’s the day after Easter, so most likely we will all go back to our regular routines in life. School, work, hanging out with friends, chores, and whatever else may fill our days. However, it’s my hope and prayer that none of us ever forget about why we celebrate Easter each year. That we remember […]
And he was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me” – Luke 9:23 Take up your cross daily. That one word radically changes this verse. I remind myself of this verse quite often, but I think I’ve missed that […]
In his book Boy Meets Girl: Say Hello to Courtship, Joshua Harris is talking about following Christ by faith, even when He doesn’t make it clear who we will marry and when. This can also be applied to other areas of our life as well. That quote from the book really stuck out to me, because […]
(This is a post I wrote back in 2012) Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a […]
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. — James 1:2-4 James tells us to consider all joy when we encounter trials. Be joyful in […]
“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 My sister Samantha helped me come up with the logo of A Rising Generation. Together we came up with the idea of a lighthouse, and then she designed the logo (She is an […]
We live in a generation where media is considered to be “social”, and teenagers and young adults no longer know how to carry on a face-to-face conversation. We live in a generation where people work just to “get by”, instead of exercising a great work ethic and striving to do their best in everything. We live […]
