We live in a generation where media is considered to be “social”, and teenagers and young adults no longer know how to carry on a face-to-face conversation. We live in a generation where people work just to “get by”, instead of exercising a great work ethic and striving to do their best in everything. We live in a generation where everyone is focused on themselves, instead of looking for ways to help others. We live in a generation where heartbreak and divorce is normal, and marriage and 50th wedding anniversaries are rare. We live in a generation where being a “Christian” is the thing to do, but studying the Bible and standing up for your faith isn’t.
I long to see my generation go above and beyond what is expected from us. I want to see a generation of young adults work hard and stand up for Christ. I want to see my generation change the world for the better. We are the future leaders of this world, and our future will be here in the blink of an eye.
I know I’m not the only one who wants to see this happen. I know I’m not the only one who wants more from life than getting to the next level in a video game. There are teens and young adults all over the world who are making a difference.
The Rebelution was started by two teenaged boys who found God had a much bigger plan for teens beyond society’s expectations. Twins Alex and Brett Harris started TheRebelution.com, a place young adults can connect with others who want to make a difference and find resources to do so. They also wrote Do Hard Things, sharing God’s plan for teens and young adults, young adults in history, and young adults making a difference today. Start Here was their follow-up book, helping teens find ways to make a difference in every day life and around the world. I highly recommend you check out their blog and books. They have been a huge help and encouragement to me over the years.
The Rebelution showed me and other teens around the world that we aren’t alone in wanting more from life. We aren’t alone in wanting to break the social norm.
I came up with the idea for this blog as a way for me to share with you things that I learn about living my faith and going above what is expected. I am always taking notes and journaling as I learn new things from the Bible, books, and discussions with family and friends. After months of great conversations with my best friend, I realized I find so much joy in sharing what I’m learning with someone. Also, talking about life with someone who wants the same things I do is exciting and encouraging. I’ve been able to learn things from her as well. This only furthered my belief that I’m not alone.
And so A Rising Generation was started.
Rising means “coming to maturity”, and Generation is of course all of us in our teen and young adult years, or Millennials as our current generation is called. We are all coming to maturity, and it is time we step up together and embrace what God expects from us, instead of what the world expects from us. It’s time to live our lives for God alone.
My goal for this blog is to be able to share with you as I go along my journey of becoming an adult and follower of Christ. I don’t have it all figured out, but I hope that I will be able to encourage you through my posts. I would also love for this to become a discussion. I would love to hear from you, your stories, and your thoughts about my posts. I look forward to sharing with you and hearing from you!
Your sister in Christ,
