Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another. – Napoleon Hill
That is a powerful thought. I have never heard it said that way before. People say words can build up or tear down, but I’ve never heard our words planting a seed. Like a seed planted in the ground, we may not see the results of our actions and words right away. It can grow inside someone for days or years before finally having an effect on them. The question is will our words have a positive or negative effect on others?
I think we too often forget just how much power words have, especially to those who really care about what we say. The words you say to a friend could make the difference between whether or not they pursue their dream. Your words could make the difference between whether someone surrenders to Christ or runs away.
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. – Ephesians 4:29
The same could be said about our actions as well. I think actions speak louder than words, and if our words can have such a huge impact, imagine what our actions could do.
So, how are we going to choose to use our words and actions? Are we going to think twice? Do we want to plant seeds that grow into beautiful flowers or thorny briars?
